If CBD oil is extracted from research-based hemp plants (less than 0.3% THC) it is considered legal and over-the-counter in all 50 states. You may notice in our store that we have oils. We believe the best way to absorb CBD is sublingual (under the tongue). Some experts believe that 80% of the health benefits from cannabis come from CBD. In order to actualize health benefits, the plants must be grown cleanly and oils extracted expertly. These hemp oils are part of a masterful formula in our muscle balms and body butter.

In 1992, researchers uncovered a newly discovered endocannabinoid system (ECS). The ECS is a system whose job it is to maintain homeostasis: a balanced internal environment despite the daily fluctuation in our external environment (poor diet, pollution, stress). It does this by continuously regulating functions in our brain, skin, digestive tract, liver, cardiovascular system, genitourinary, function, and even bone. The total effect of the ECS is to regulate homeostasis and prevent disease and aging.
Endogenous cannabinoids (or endocannabinoids) are compounds that our body produces itself. Your body creates endocannabinoids with the help of fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids are especially important for this, and research in animals has shown a connection between diets low in omega-3s and mood changes caused by poor endocannabinoid regulation. Another way to support your ECS is through lifestyle: massage, acupuncture, exercise, and weight control can all upregulate (or enhance) your endocannabinoid system.
The two endocannabinoids we know of were discovered by Dr. Raphael Mechoulam and his colleagues. They are produced “on demand” by nerve cells (called neurons) whenever our ECS needs to kick on to maintain balance. They tell your body when to get certain processes started, and when to stop them. The first endocannabinoid, N-arachidonoylethanolamine (AEA), is more commonly known as anandamide. The second is 2-arachidonoylglycerol, or 2-AG.
Phytocannabinoids are cannabinoids that come from plants. Phytocannabinoids bind to both the CB1 and CB2 receptors and interact with them in similar ways as anandamide and 2-AG do. When consuming cannabis-based medicines, the body gets much higher levels of cannabinoids than it can produce itself, thus producing a therapeutic effect. In addition to this, CBD blocks the enzyme that breaks down AEA, which in effect increases our “endocannabinoid tone.”
A compromised endocannabinoid tone may result in illness and disease, including clinical endocannabinoid deficiency. When the body does not produce enough endocannabinoids or cannot regulate them properly, you are more susceptible to illnesses that affect one or several of the functions overseen by the endocannabinoid system. Endocannabinoid deficiencies could be the root cause of many autoimmune disorders like migraines, fibromyalgia, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). One possible solution might be microdosing. Because small doses of phytocannabinoids can encourage the body to create more naturally occurring endocannabinoids and their receptors, it may be possible to boost our systems and avoid deficiencies with regular small doses of phytocannabinoids like CBD, THC, and CBN. Small doses tend to perturb our CB1 and CB2 receptors with the effect of boosting production of our own natural endocannabinoids
The CB1 receptors are most abundant in the central nervous system, connective tissues, glands, and organs like the uterus, cardiovascular system, GI tract, pancreas, bones, and liver, with the brain containing most of these receptors. CB2 receptors are more often found on immune cells, in the gastrointestinal tract, and in the peripheral nervous system. CB2 receptors are also present in the brain, gut, spleen, liver, heart, kidneys, bones, blood vessels, lymph cells, endocrine glands, and reproductive organs. Many tissues contain both CB1 and CB2 receptors, where they carry out different actions. Cannabinoid receptors are the most plentiful receptors in the body, more numerous than any other receptor system.
CBD impacts our bodies by working indirectly on both the CB1 and CB2 receptors, stimulating these receptors while also blocking a key enzyme from breaking down our own endogenous cannabinoid anandamide, effectively making CBD a reuptake and breakdown inhibitor. This increases the levels of anandamide in the brain and is thought to be why CBD has proven to be so effective at helping to manage seizures.
The main benefit CBD confers to humans (and many other creatures, too) is as an anti-inflammatory agent. We are coming to appreciate that inflammation is the common seed for many forms of disease and underlies seemingly unrelated conditions like Alzheimer’s disease and cancer. Please click on button above titled “click for great book idea” for a great resource that spells out very well how much impact CBD may have as it interacts with our own endocannabinoid system.
Anandamide levels in the brain are higher at night, where it works with oleamide and adenosine to generate sleep. 2-AG levels in the brain are higher during the day, and it seems to promote wakefulness. This may be why taking CBD at night helps us sleep and taking it during the day does not make us sleepy. CBD is affecting different endocannabinoids by simply avoiding the breakdown of what we have. This is as natural of an action as it gets!
Oil-based CBD tinctures are made by infusing a carrier oil (typically olive oil, coconut oil, medium-chain triglycerides (MCT) oil, or hemp oil) with an extracted concentrate coming from either cannabis or hemp.(remember that fatty foods are ideal candidates for upping the bioavailability!).
Sublingual and Mucosal This delivery method relies on the mucous membrane under the tongue and in the cheeks to absorb CBD. Capillaries in the connective tissue diffuse the CBD, which then enters the bloodstream. Because this method avoids the stomach and liver, its bioavailability (6% to 20%) is generally higher than ingestion.
There is a family of liver enzymes, called the cytochrome P450 group, that works to metabolize roughly 60% of the pharmaceutical drugs we consume. At high enough doses, CBD inhibits the activity of these enzymes, which will increase the duration of action and effect of prescription drugs metabolized by the P450 group. Meaning you will need to work with a doctor to monitor the blood levels of your medications while taking CBD.

There is so much information out there. Consider clicking the button "Click for great book idea..." above for "Healing with CBD: How Cannabidiol Can Transform Your Health without the High." We also suggest: "CBD: What You Need to Know" written by Gregory Smith, MD, MPH. The information contained on this website comes from multiple sources. No promises can be made that CBD Oil will help you... however, it has helped a very large number of people- take the time to read their stories.

Tim and Carol Simon
Tim's mother, Florence, is pictured on the right. In the last years of her life, Carol was her main caregiver. As an RN, Carol was all too aware of both the pain Florence was in as well as how Florence hated how most pain medications made her feel. She also hated the steroid injections and the 'Rooster Comb' injections. She was not an appropriate candidate for knee replacements or back surgery. Then she broke her hip.... In an effort to learn what else could be done for her mother-in-law, Carol came across information about CBD in 2016. Fortunately, Florence was seeing a physician that was aware of it enough to support using it. In combination with other things like avoiding foods that caused inflammation to skyrocket, both Tim and Carol believe CBD did make a a difference in improving her quality of life the last 4 months she graced this earth. It's not a coincidence that we have a sculpture of a Dragonfly in our flowerbed next to her favorite flower
In memoriam.
Tim has benefited from CBD Oil since we discovered conversation about potential added benefits for auto-immune issues as well as for anxiety/depression, celiac, inflammation, and pain. Without understanding nearly what we do now, Tim started using it 2 years ago. It started with, "because it helped my mother, maybe it will help me." Tim has turned into a believer in CBD because of his own experience. Please understand this is not the only thing Tim does to stay healthy but it certainly is a large 'part of the program.' He has been ReNewed.
Carol, who is ultimately a "why person" (and some may say analytical-), needed to understand why CBD could possibly help so many ailments. Fortunately, Carol is familiar with Functional Medicine. The story behind that is much too long to include here. Understanding that the body is complicated and has incredible abilities to heal and compensate, really allowed Carol to understand how CBD could affect the body as a whole. A simple way of explaining it is that CBD helps the body 'get out of it's own way.' Please read above resources to gain your own understanding.
